About WellPay.org.uk

Let’s get a couple of things out of the way first. WellPay.org.uk is not a charity nor does it have any kind of religious involvement whatsoever. It is a fully self-funded project by Swansea Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Frank Paul and was solely created to inspire others to carry out random acts of kindness for people with the aim of ‘paying it forward’ to others.

There is no financial motive or incentive behind this website in any shape or form, and we do not accept donations or ask for anything in return for running this website – it is funded from our own pockets and always will be.

What does ‘Paying it forward’ actually mean?

Paying it forward is a concept which has a snowball effect and basically means that that when you are the recipient of an act of random kindness, instead of paying back the person who helped you, (by helping them in their time of need) you extend a random act of kindness to someone else in their time of need – therefore ‘paying it forward’. So if you are someone who has been lucky enough to have experienced a random act of kindness yourself, then all we ask is you ‘pay it forward’ to someone else.

Most Random acts of kindness don’t cost anything at all, however there some which can involve spending a small amount of money (buying a homeless person a cup of coffee for example) however there is no right or wrong way to perform a random act of kindness, in the same way that they don’t have to cost money either. But why should I get involved?

Random acts of kindness are usually done anonymously and are basically a deliberate attempt to brighten someone's day by going out of your way to do something thoughtful or nice for somebody. Wikipedia describes it as "a selfless act performed by a person or people wishing either to assist or to cheer up an individual person or people" I have committed a number of random acts of kindness over the last few years, and I can give you three fundamental reasons why I think you should get involved.

1. You have the ability to change someone's life for the better. Your simple intervention of unexpected happiness in their lives could have a dramatic effect on them and lift their day higher than you thought was even possible, and in some circumstances you could change their life forever. I remember reading a story a long while back about a young girl who was sitting on a bus looking very sad, miserable and was crying to herself, when an older gentleman approached her as he was getting off the bus and gave her a bunch of flowers. The gentleman explained that he had purchased them for his wife for their 15th wedding anniversary but his wife would understand as the girl looked like she needed cheering up. Later that evening, the girl made a post on Facebook that she was actually going to commit suicide when she arrived home after that bus journey and that stranger has unknowingly saved her life by his act of kindness.

2. The feeling you get from committing a random act of kindness is fantastic and practising kindness is infectious. When you're willing to display kindness to others, people are usually inspired by your example and think about doing something as kind themselves.

3. I truly believe that random acts of kindness are essential to our wellbeing, as they liberate us from self-obsession and selfishness. True generosity is giving without expectation, with no need to be repaid in any form to the person who done it - this is the most powerful act of generosity, as it is truly unconditional.
